Multiples

To find the multiples of a number, start at that number and count on by that number.  For example, the multiples of 4 are:

4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40...

The multiples of 6 are:

6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42...

The numbers 12, 24, and 36 are on both lists, therefore they are multiples of both 4 and 6.  They are called common multiples, and 12 is the least common multiples of 4 and 6.  Each common multiple is divisible by both 4 and 6.  

Understanding multiples can be used to help us solve some word problems, and can also help with some of our division facts.  Please watch the video below.
